Marine Harvest, Campbell River Youth Soccer Association U18 Boys enjoyed a “three peat” last weekend as they claimed their third back-to-back Island Cup Championship with a commanding victory over Gorge FC of Victoria. This season the victory was much more emphatic than any other year as the boys won 7-0.

Champs coming for football camp

Players from the Canadian junior champion Nanaimo Raiders are coming to Campbell River for a football camp. The Campbell River Fighting Eagles host the annual spring football camp on May 28-29, at Sportsplex in Willow Point, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

Mini-World Cup is a big event this weekend

Eighty youth soccer teams are competing in the city this weekend during the Mini-World Cup. “It’s going to be a ton of fun,” said tournament co-ordinator Allison Wood.

Wolves out for spring

The Wolves have come out for the spring. Spring football is now underway at Timberline Secondary School. For the next month, the junior and senior Wolves’ teams are practising Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 3-5 p.m., at the Timberline field.

Racing season is underway

Opening night of racing at Saratoga Speedway saw many new faces and some great racing. Last year’s Crash to Pass champ Glenn Pinto was sporting a new car, but ran into mechanical problems halfway through the night. A wet track caused for slower times in qualifying, with fast time going to Travis Stevenson (18.933), who also won the dash.
