Notice of Channel Dredging Works in the Kingcome River at the Mouth

The Dzawada’enuxw First Nation and B.C. Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy hereby gives notice that a submission has been added to the Navigable Waters Registry pursuant to the Canadian Navigable Waters Act for public comment described herein and its site and plans.

Pursuant to paragraph 10(1)(b) of the said Act, the Dzawada’enuxw First Nation and B.C. Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy have deposited with the Minister of Transport, on the online Common Project Registry (http://cps.canada.ca/) and under registry number 8313, a description of the following work:

  • The dredge area comprises the lower 1 km of the mainstem of the Kingcome River, directly upstream from where its delta meets Kingcome Inlet. The dredge area is 35m wide to provide passage for vessels plying the Kingcome River.
  • The dredged material will be relocated to an area at least 35 metres deep at the mouth of the estuary.
  • The project is located 5 kilometres downstream of the U’Kwa Nalis Village at and near the mouth of Kingcome River and 32 U’Kwa Nalis Rd, Kingcome Inlet, B.C V0N 2B0. Canadian Hydrographic Chart Number “3515-Knight Inlet”. Adjacent to and near Parcel PID 004-512-740, Parcel PID 010-064-770, Parcel Identification Number PIN 348420-Plan 18TU598, Regional District of Mount Waddington.
  • Work is scheduled between November 15, 2023, and February 15, 2024, with contractor mobilization up to a week prior to and after those start and end dates.
